Given the freedom to merge three animals into a single fictional creature, I took a unique approach of appealing to my love for John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ (1982) and set out to make mine anything but cute.

For this solution, I combined a scorpion, a cobra, and a deepsea viperfish into one being and situated it in an Arizonan desert. All components were made more gold to reflect the desert environment, and dirt was implemented onto each part as well to create a consistent unclean appearance for the creature.

Positive feedback from this project prompted me to turn this into a series, forming the basis for a postcard and brochure later that same year.
